A Pictorial Rarity

Decorative map of the America, Europe, Africa and the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, promoting the Lockheed's Super Constellation.

Unlike most promotional maps involving aircraft, this map is a promotional map for Lockheed's airplane, the Super Constellation, rather than promoting one of the airlines. As such, it is extremely rare.

The Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation was part of the Lockheed Constellation aircraft line. The L-1049 was Lockheed's response to the successful Douglas DC-6 airliner, first flying in 1950. The aircraft was also produced for both the United States Navy and Air Force as transport and AWACS aircraft.

The first Super Constellation commercial flight was in 1951.
