Description

Detailed antique engraved map of the Middle East and the eastern Mediterranean, with an inset continuing the coast of North Africa.

The map was issued by Parisian mapmaker Jean-Baptiste Crepy in 1767.

The map shows all of the Arabian Peninsula in detail with a large section set aside as "Bahrraim", near present-day Bahrain.

The cartouche shows foreign (European?) soldiers genuflecting in the tent of Middle Eastern ruler.

This is a reissue of a map that was first prepared for Le Rouge's Atlas Nouvel Portatif... issued in Paris in 1748.
