Description

Detailed Second World War-era map of the Strait of Hormuz and what is now the United Arab Emirates. This is the third edition of the map, published in 1945.

This is one of the most detailed maps available from this era. It includes oil wells and oil pipelines, which were barely beginning to be built when this map was made.

The map covers in the south what was then called Trucial Oman, which includes the Emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah and the northwestern portion of Oman.

It shows roads between "ABU DHABI", "DIBAI", and "SHARJA".

A key in the bottom margin notes airfields, abandoned airfields, landing grounds, abandoned landing grounds, "Airfield, local position or existence not confirmed". "Seaplane Alighting Areas" are shown at Dubai and Ras Al Khaima.
