Description

Attractive French pictorial map showing the routes by which the U.S.S.R. could communicate with its allies - and receive materiel - during the Second World War.

The map illustrates three potential routes by which the Soviets could get supplies. The first route is that of the Northwest Passage (the exact path for which the map says is a Russian secret). The second route is the route to Murmansk from the U.S. by boat (the map points out that this route was susceptible to Axis bombers flying from Norway). The third route the map shows was to overfly the pole, though, it is pointed out, this was impossible in winter due to constant night, snow, and blizzards.

The map features a quaint legend in the form of a fantasy map.

On the left side of the map is a list of factoids about the North Pole and its history. Note 21, about Peary, mentions that he had as his only company "un negre, Henson".
