Description

Detailed map of the Europe on one side and the World on the other, shown during the Second World War. The map was made by General Drafting Company in New York for Esso Gas Stations.

The Europe map side of the sheet includes several essays ("The Geography of Global Warfare"; "The World Island"; "Fortress Europe"; "Those Foreign Names"; "Geography Far From Static") that introduced important novel geographic concepts to the American public. There is also a vignette map of Eastern Europe ("Boundary Changes in Central Europe Since 1938").
