Description
An interesting data visualization of Alexander von Humboldt's work on equatorial American vegetation. Shows the height of major features in the area, such as a Quito or Chimborazo, and compares them to European mountains, including Mont Blanc.
Most of the work is taken up by text describing the various species that can be found at specific ranges of elevation. The drawings of mountains include sketches of this vegetation at the corresponding altitudes. An intriguing work that allows one to trace the equatorial flora from the "Region of Subterranean Plants" to the "Region of Lichens and Umbilicariae."
A&C Black produced world atlases and a significant portion of their work focused on representing physical geography for a lay audience.
