This map marvelously detailed map of Venice is one of the most sought after of all of the Bordone maps, providing an excellent look at the lagoon and surrounding islands at the beginning of the 15th Century, with over 30 place names shown and an excellent depiction of the major canals and landmarks in and around Venice.

Includes Italian text on the verso and smaller map of Murano.

Bordone's work was one of the earliest and most important works of its time, illustrating important islands and ports throughout the Mediterranean and other parts of the World. Many of the maps are among the earliest printed maps of the regions depicted

Benedetto Bordone Biography

Benedetto Bordone (1460-1531) was a polymath who was born in Padua and worked in Venice. He was an illuminator, engraver, miniaturist, editor, and geographer. It is possible he made the first globe in Italy. His most famous work is the Isolario, or Book of Islands, which included many of the earliest printed maps of islands in the New World.
