Description

First edition of Tanner's map of New York City, Brooklyn and Williamsburg, from Tanner's Universal Atlas.

The map is hand colored by wards, and shows streets, railroads, slips, wharves, hotels, churches (by denomination) and a host of other details, including a reference guide for Brooklyn place names. A key on the outside includes over 100 points of interest, place names, distances, etc.

Extends north to Murray Hill Square and 37th Street.

This map was the progenitor of a series of maps issued later by Mitchell, Thomas Cowperthwait, and Desilver, which spans nearly 50 years.

A nice example of Tanner's map, which rarely appears on the market.
