Description

Rare lithographed map of Saint Paul, Minnesota, by one of St. Paul's greatest mapmakers. The city is rendered in subdivision-, plot-, and sometimes building-level detail. Como Park, Summit Avenue, and the "New State Capitol Site" are shown - the "new" Minnesota State Capitol was finished in 1905.

Rice differentiated this map from his "Index Map of St. Paul" by calling it "Rice's No. 2 Map of St. Paul", as seen on the covers here.

The map shows Fort Snelling with both the fort and an area labeled "Headquarters Department of Dakota".

Rarity

OCLC records a single example (at MNHS) of the 1896 Index map, but none of this edition of Rice's "No. 2" map.
