Description

With Rare Early Los Angeles and Texas Insets!

Rare promotional map of the United States, promoting the lines of the Southern Pacific Railroad and Steamship Company.

The map provides a detailed image of the United States, focusing on the rail lines of the Southern Pacific, with large inset maps of Los Angeles (showing the Union Depot and Commercial Street Depot), San Francisco, San Antonio and New Orleans and a large map showing the railroad lines within Texas.

The majority of the line was in California, Texas and the Southwest, along with a line to New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Louisiana. Portland, Oregon, Ogden, Utah, and Torreon, Mexico. The expansion of the lines in California is of particular note, with the lines being actively expanded in Southern California and the Central Valley in the preceding years.

Steamship lines from Galveston and New Orleans are also shown, along with a line connecting Havana and Key West.

Includes a significant promotional tract promoting California on the left and Texas on the right, with time table information on the verso.

Rarity

The present state is very rare.  This is the first example we have ever seen, although there is a rare uncolored variant edition in French!
