Description
Large Tourist Map Poster of Assam, India.
Nice map of Assam, published in Shillong, India in the middle of the 20th century, aimed at the budding tourist industry in that tea-producing region.
The key enumerates the following: Rail Road; Rail Road Under Construction; Motor Road; Air Route; Circuit House; Dak Bangalows; and Tourist Lodges.
The map features the major towns and tourist areas along the Brahmapu Tra River, including Guwahati (Gaugati), Dibrugarh, and Shillong.
Library of Congress gives a date of 1970, though an earlier date is perhaps more likely. The "Northwest Frontier Agency" mentioned on the map existed prior to 1972, and various internal configuration are more in keeping with the late 1950s and early 1960s, than with 1970.
Condition Description
Backed on modern archival poster linen. Small areas of restoration along the left edge - a few repaired tears and a small section of blank reinstated paper just to the left of the compass.
