Colburn's map extends from Nueva California, the Sierra Madre and Lake Timpanogos in the west to the Arkansas River and Lower Mississippi River in the east, centered on modern day Texas and New Mexico.
The detail in the upper Rio Grande Valley is impressive as is the treatment of the Colorado River and its Tributaries.
In Texas, "Austin's Town" is located, a reference to the settlement established by Stephen F. Austin in 1825.
