Description
Rare map of America showing California as an Island, published in Stockholm.
The map appeared in Holm's work on the Swedish colonies in America. California is shown as an island on the Briggs Model, with N[ova] Suecia appearing between New Holland and Virginia. South America is shown with the mythical, equatorial Lake Parime, although it is not named here.
The work was based the records left by his grandfather Johannes Campanius, chaplain of the Swedish colony from 1643 to 1648, and on the manuscript of the writer and settler Peter Mårtensson Lindeström, Geographia Americae.
This is the first time we have ever offered the map for sale.
