Description

Attractive vintage pictorial map of the Cherry Blossom bloom along the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.

The map was designed and drawn by Caroline van H. Bean in 1937. The map was published by Binyon Studio and printed by Webb & Bocorselski.

The map shows Potomac Park, the Tidal Basin, the White House, Washington Monument, etc.

There are four vignettes showing Mt. Vernon, the White House, Lincoln Memorial, and the Capitol.

1937 was the 25th Anniversary of the Japanese gift of the Cherry Blossom trees to the United States. In 1938, a group of women chained themselves together to protest the removal of some trees to make way for the Jefferson Memorial.

The map is quite rare. We can find no other copies having been on the market. NLA, LC, and Historical Society of Washington D.C. have examples.
