Interesting world map illustrating the comparative positions of the French, British, and Russian Empires in the world as of 1840, especially relative to the positions of those empires in 1740.
The main argument of the French-language map is as follows: France has stayed the same within Europe since 1740; around the world it had lost almost everything; Britain had grown its global empire by an incredible amount; Russia had effectively stayed the same.
The map is clearly inviting some self-reflection on the part of the French in terms of what they had lost or not been able to accomplish in the preceding century.
The map is colored by empire, with pink representing the United Kingdom, blue representing France, and green representing Russia.
