Description

With Portraits of Vespucci and Columbus

Rare Spanish map of America and the Western Hemisphere, published in Valladolid in 1598.

Burden describes this map as "a curious mix of the two similar maps of Abraham Ortelius of 1570 and 1587."   Solis utilizes Ortelius's 1570 map of America as his base model, but adds in the Nova Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

The western section of the map is dominated by Quivira, Anian and unknown regions in the north.
