Description

Fascinating Atomic War Maps and Fallout Shelter Pamphlet.

Eight maps printed on one map sheet front and back. The map was published by Geographia Map Co. in New York in 1958.

The map is accompanied by a pamphlet titled "What You Can Do Now About Fallout Protection", which includes five pages illustrating how to best construct a nuclear fallout shelter.

The general map sheets is filled with inset maps that were thought to be geopolitically relevant "in case of war". These include: Asia, Korean, Across the Arctic from U.S.A to U.S.S.R., Israel, U.S.S.R. in Europe, and Air Distance Map of the World. On the back was a map of the World on Mercator's Projection and a Standard Map of Europe.

On the cover of the map is an illustration of jet fighters dogfighting around a mushroom cloud.

The group is reflective of the extreme anxiety that gripped the American consciousness during the height of the Cold War.
