Description
Charting The Routes of Anson and Cook's First Voyage
Double hemisphere map of the World, published in London by John Lodge, including the Sea of Korea.
The map illustrates the tracks of Anson's voyage and James Cook's first voyage. Cook's tracks show a passage between the two large islands that comprise New Zealand and his coasting of the East Coast of Australia. The map predates Cook's discovery of Hawaii on his third and final voyage.
The details along the Northwest Coast of America are a combination of early Russian reports and the remnants of several cartographic myths.
