Description

"Among these Mountains Scalping Tribes of Indians inhabit"

Attractive and scarce antique map of the American Colonies after the French and Indian War. Published in the Royal Magazine, in May 1763, to show the North American gains that the British made during that war.

The map shows English territory continuing west over the "Allegany Mountains" but a line further east suggests that settlement might be difficult because of hostile Indians: "Among these Mountains Scalping Tribes of Indians inhabit".

The Explanation reads:

The Provinces belonging to England before the War, lye on the Eastern Side of the dotted Line; & the Cessions made by France & Spain to England, by the Peace, lye between that and the River Mississipi.
