Description

Excellent Golden-Age of Illustration Fantasy Map of the lands of John William Smith.

Scarce fantasty pictorial map, illustrating the country explorered by the mythical John William Smith, with a page of text explaining Smith and his map, Gilbert Anthony Pownall, published in London in 1924.

The map attribution is quite ironic, given that two of the most famous mapmakers of modern history were named John Smith (British Explorer of the early 17th Century and British Geologist of the mid-19th Century).

The map was published in Traveller's Joy A Device, written by Dion Clayton Calthrop and illustrated by Gilbert Pownall.
