Description

Rare Vintage Pictorial Map of Boston Common and Beacon Hill.

The map is overflowing with portraits, historical facts, and anecdotes, insets of important scenes in Boston history, and a further map of "The Outskirts of Old Boston".

In the lower right corner is a "Directory of Historic Sites & Existing Points of Interest".

The date is estimated based on the subtitle "A Pageant of Four Centuries", with 1630, 1730, and 1830 illustrated in insets in the corners.

Rumsey (7919) says of Tyng: "Griswold Tyng was a Massachusetts native who excelled in illustration and easel painting, did portraits, maritime themes, human activities, and historical figures."
