Description

Scarce American GI recreational pictorial map of the area around Frankfurt, Germany, drawn by "Lederhosen Lefty" Burgess in 1954 and published by Stars UY Stripes.

The map depicts depicts the greater Frankfurt area, extending to the Taunus Mountains and other points of interest.  The map is richly detailed throughout, with emphasis on recreational and other points of interest for GI's stationed in the area (including my father, Joe Ruderman).

Military barracks are shown as is the 97th Hospital and the quarters of the WACs (Women's Army Corps), but the greatest emphasis is placed on fun and recreation and period humor.

Rarity

The map is rare on the market, with only a single institutional example at the University of Chicago.
