Description

Whimsical pictorial map of the Monterey Peninsula, drawn by Dick Bibler.

The map extends from Carmel to the Monterey Airport and Fort Ord Golf Course, northwest to Point Pinos and the Pacific Grove Lighthouse and Cyprus Point in the west, centered on the town of Monterey.

The map is ringed with historical vignettes telling the story of the region.

As noted by David Rumsey:

Colorful pictorial map, issued for the Monterey Bicentennial of 1970. Showing tourist attractions, major buildings, roads, and activities of tourists and local people such as golfing, surfing, hiking, etc. The decorative border depicts vignette illustrations of historic sites and people. The inset map of the old town area, has a numbered guide for a Walking Tour and an Auto Tour.
