Description

Nineteenth century image of this early 17th Century battle plan of of L'Escalade, commemorating the defeat of the siege of Geneva by Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy in December 12, 1602.

Around the central engraving, which shows a bird's eye view of the armies around Geneva, are smaller engravings depicting details and other events, such as Catherine Cheynel pouring boiling soup on the heads of the attackers, the conquest of Versoy in 1589 and an image of Noah's ark.

This is a restrike of a circa 1667 map, apparently using the original plate. The engraving is placed on old 18th- or early-19th-century wove paper, thus giving a date range for the age of the plate.
