William Anne, Governor of Virginia
Rare mezzotint portrait of William Anne Keppel, Second Earl of Albermarle and Governor of Virginia.
Lieutenant-General Willem Anne van Keppel, 2nd Earl of Albemarle KG KB PC (1702 – 1754) was a British diplomat and courtier. Albemarle County, Virginia is named after the second Earl as, in 1737, Albemarle was appointed Governor of the Colony of Virginia.
The portrait is very rare. We trace examples at the British Museum, University of Michigan (Clements) and Yale Center for British Art.
