Description

Rare separately published map of Scotland, attributed to Thomas Jenner.

The map is known to have appeared in Jenner's catalog in 1662, however the few surviving examples of the map are bound into composite atlases from the early 1640s.

A later edition of the map is known to exist, with the additional attribution below the title cartouche, identifying John Garrett as the publisher.  Garrett acquired Jenner's business in 1673 and this second edition of the map appears in Garrett's catalog of 1679.  The Garrett imprint reads:

Printed Coloured and sold by Iohn Garrett at ye South entrance of ye Royall Exchang in Cornhill wree yuou may have Choyce of all sorts of Mapps

Rarity

Based upon information provided in the cataloging of London dealer Daniel Crouch, four examples of the map are known to survive in institutional collection (British Library; National Library of Scotland; British Admiralty Library; and a private collection).

Moir: Early Maps of Scotland lists the map as anonymous.
