A Rare (and not Hysterical) Map Drawn by Jolly Lindgren
Finely executed pictorial map of the Columbia Irrigation system, published by the Lindgren Brothers firm of Spokane, Washington.
Best known for their "Hysterical Map" series, this map has all the stylistic qualities of a Lindgen work, but is remarkably free from any whim, pun or other joke which was the firm trademark.
The model of the Dam Pumping Plant and other vignettes show that the Lindgren Brothers were also capable of serious functional diagrammatic work, although for those who are fans of the Hysterical Map series, the map leaves us searching for Jolly's trademark humor.
In fact, the Lindgren Brothers also did a Grand Coulee Dam Hysterical map, which was published in 1940.
Rarity
The map is apparently very rare. We located a poor example in the Washington State Library, Washington Rural Heritage on-line catalog and a copy in the Western Washington University Library and Spokane Public Library. http://www.washingtonruralheritage.org/cdm/ref/collection/connell/id/282
