Description

A charming relic from another era, this is a 1942 WWII period campus map of the University of California-Berkeley. The map bears an interesting note on the verso reading 'Camptown Races / Carry me back to Old Virginia / Oh Suzanna / Good Looking Women Oct. 29, 1946.' The map depicts the campus from the border between the City of Oakland and the City of Berkeley to Shattuck Avenue and from north of Hearst Avenue to Durant Avenue. Buildings all across campus are identified including California Memorial Stadium, the International House, Bowles Hall, the Hearst Greek Theatre, and Sather Tower. Giannini Hall, Hilgard Hall, Haviland Hall, Hesse Hall, and the Eucalyptus Grove are also labeled. Streets throughout campus are also identified, as are tennis courts, greenhouses, and a seismograph station.

This map was published in 1942 for use by students at U.C.-Berkeley. Evidently it was still in use in 1946, per the note on verso.
