The map is bounded by Stanyan at the west, Fulton at the north, Octavia Street on the east and Frederick and Dubose Avenues in the south.

The Hebrew Orphan Asylum dates back to 1871, when the Pacific Hebrew Orphan Asylum and Home Society were incorporated “to found and maintain an asylum for orphan children” and “to establish and support a Home for aged and infirm Israelites.” The present location shown would be one of the buildings owned by the Society.
