Description

One of the Great Maps of Odessa.

A stunning lithographed map of Odessa, Ukraine, published in Odessa in 1864.

The map separates Odessa by its constituent neighborhoods and depicts land classifications pictorially.

The map has four detailed inset views, clockwise from the upper left corner:

Монументъ Князю Воронцову: "Monument to Prince Vorontsov"

Видъ Военнагo Спуска съ Практ. Гавани.: "View of the Military Descent from the Right. The harbor."

биржевая Площадь: "Exchange Square"

Монументъ Герцогу Ришелье: "Monument to the Duke of Richelieu"

The lithographer is mentioned as the Odessa-based P. Frantsov: "Гравировка и печатъ въ Литографии П. Францова, въ Одессѣ"

On the left and right side, the map is flanked by an extensive key.

The map was cleared by the censors in Odessa on August 31, 1864.

The map is quite rare, we trace no examples in OCLC, the Russian institutional collections databases, or in any sale records. There is one later edition, substantially amended, that is illustrated online.
