Description

On the Eve of the Creation of Manchukuo

Large folding  map of Manchuria and Mongolia with the Korean and Shandong Peninsulas in the lower section of the map, published by 大阪朝日新聞社 (Osaka Asahi Shinbunsha).

The map was issued as a supplement to an Osaka Asahi Shinbun newspaper on February 1st, 1932. The publication was a month to the day prior to the establishment of Manchukuo, the puppet nation controlled by Japan, on March 1, 1932.

The explanatory note under the title at the top right corner, written by Osaka Asahi Shinbunsha in December 1931, claimed that this map was the most up-to-date, precise, and detailed map of Manchuria and Mongolia. It explains that the original map was provided by The South Manchuria Railway Co., Ltd.,completed in late December 1931 after undergoing thorough revision and additions which took over a month.

Few small chips along margins, stained at upper and lower left, few small holes along folds.
