Description

Rare promotional brochure for the town of Foresta, within Yosemite National Park.

Includes a number of photographic illustrations, including log cabins in Foresta, "actual photographs of Foresta Sites", Summer Campers in Foresta, etc.

Foresta was a private development within the boundary of Yosemite near the El Portal entrance and just a short ride from the Railroad depot.

Foresta (formerly known as McCauley and Opim) is an unincorporated community in Mariposa County, California, within Yosemite National Park. The name comes from the Foresta Land Company, founded by A.B. Davis in 1913.  Davis built a resort at Foresta but abandoned it before Foresta, the Opim post office operated there from 1882 to 1884.

Foresta is one of three enclaves of private property within Yosemite (two more exist at Wawona and Aspen Valley). Private ownership of the area, originally intended as a grand summer resort, predates Yosemite's establishment as a national park, and the area remains privately held.
