Description

Fine early Territorial map of Iowa at a very early stage of development, still including a part of southern Minnesota.

This interesting map from the final edition of Tanner's New Universal Atlas, shows only 31 counties in the eastern half of the state. The remainder of the state is shaded yellow and contains Indian names and a section of the state marked "neutral ground". The map also shows towns and waterways.

One of the earliest obtainable maps of Iowa. After 1845, Tanner sold the rights to the atlas to Samuel Augustus Mitchell.
