Description

Interesting pictorial map illustrating the location of over 300 plantations and owners in the eastern portion of South Carolina, drawn in 1932 by A.T.S. Stoney.

The map was published by Elliman, Huyler & Mullally, as an advertising and promotional map for their real estate business.

The map incorporates classical 17th century title cartouches with illustrations of hunting and game related themes.

A rare oversized pictorial promotional map by A. T. S. Stoney, who produced at least 14 other Southern themed pictorial maps.

The Stoney family papers are held by the South Carolina Historical Society, although this map is apparently not a part of the collection.

He was the son of Samuel Gaillard Stoney (1853-1926) and Louisa Cheves Smythe (1868-1939). His wife was Eliza Louisa Jenkins, daughter of Edward Jenkins.
