Description

Finely engraved circular map of the Holy Land, the Eastern Mediterranean, Arabia and Persia, designed and drawn by Romeyn de Hooghe and engraved by J. von Linenberg.

Among the place names on the map are Jerusalem, Famagusta, Cairo, Niniva, Babylon, Eden, Mecca and Medina.

The corner sections outside the map have four biblical scenes: Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden; the rainbow appearing over Noah's Arc after the Flood; Moses receiving the Ten Commandments; and the birth of Jesus.

Above the map is the Tetragrammaton (YHWH) in a triangle and below a baroque compass rose.
