Rare separately issued example of Colton's marvelous early map of California, with a large San Francisco inset.

Still only a few Southern California Counties, including the no longer existent Buena Vista County, along with San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, San Bernardino, LA and San Diego Counties. Shows roads, proposed railroads, existing railroads, rivers, mountains, lakes, early explorers routes, detailed treatment of gold country, etc.

An odd mention of Carisso Creek in San Diego County, later to become the sight of the famous Railway Tressel.

Decorative borders.

This is one of the earliest separately issued maps of California, issued only a few years after California obtained statehood in 1850.

Condition Description: Folding map in original covers. Minor foxing.
