Description

Detailed map of the Northwest, exhibiting the three contemplated boundaries and ultimately the treaty boundary between Canada and the United States in the region of the Straits of Juan de Fuca.

The map covers the area "From a point where the 49th parallel of north latitude strikes the Western Coast of the Continent to the middle of the channel which separates the Continent from Vancouver's Island and thence southerly through the middle of said channel &c. to Fuca's Straits, in accordance Treaty of January 15 1846."

This map was used by the Americans in the dispute with the British and shows the three boundaries in contention. In arbitration Kaiser Wilhelm awarded in 1872 to the U.S. the boundary it claimed the western most of the 3 lines.
