Description
Wonderful engraved "time map" showing the history of France from the time of the Gauls to the 1820s.
The sides of the image are adorned with circular portraits of all the French kings up to Louis XVIII.
A fascinating and beautiful mnemonic device for representing French history in visual form.
Another state of the map includes an imprint line and 1819 date, below the image.
Édouard Hocquart (1789-1870?) was a French mapmaker and engraver active in the first half of the 19th century. He was responsible for several other attractive time maps.
