Rare Map of America Published By Perhaps of The World's Oldest Map Seller
Scarce map of America, published in Berlin in 1820 by Simon Schropp et. Co.
The map provides a fine treatment of the region explored by Lewis & Clark and regions to the north. A conjectural arctic coastline is shown, augmenting the known regions.
Simon Schropp received a privilege for map publishing and trade in 1742 from the Prussian king Frederick II, and by the end of the 18th century became one of the major European map sellers. His company successfully worked through the centuries and is now one of the best Berlin map shops "Schropp Land & Karte GmbH".
