Description

Rare view of Krakow, showing the arrival of Archduchess Anne Habsburg on May 28, 1592, who made her state entry into Krakow, amidst great rejoicing, the intended bride of Sigismund III Vasa, then King of Poland.

The image depicts an elaborate historical procession for the marriage of King Sigismund III of Poland to Anna of Austria in May 1592, near Kraków (Crocaw). The title "Was gestalt des Königes in Polen Sigismundi Braut Anna Caroli, Ertzhertzogen Von Österreich Christmilter gedechnus Tochter, den 28 Mayus. 92 bei Crocaw" translates to "How the bride of Sigismund, King of Poland, Anna, daughter of Charles, Archduke of Austria, was remembered in a Christian military ceremony on the 28th of May. 92 near Kraków."

The entire scene is bustling with activity, illustrating the grandeur and formality of royal ceremonies during the late 16th century in Poland. This engraving not only captures a significant historical moment but also provides insight into the pageantry and military organization of the era.
