18th-century French mottled calf gilt with the ARMS OF MADAME DE POMPADOUR [Olivier 2399, fer 1] on sides, gilt spine (rebacked, old spine laid down).

Title printed in red and black within a woodcut historiated border incorporating the printer's cipher, 54 (of 62) leaves and 2 (of 3) large folding maps of "Le mont de la Sibille" and the eastern hemisphere, a full-page woodcut in two compartments on the verso of the title-page, repeated on h1v, and 18 other smaller woodcuts in the text (of 19, lacking woodcut on k1), woodcut initials, some historiated. Double-column, lettres bâtardes.

Lacking genealogy of the Kings of Aragon [found between h3 and h4] and leaves e3, e4, k1, k2, k4, k5, k7 and k8 [woodcut device on verso] last 6 leaves partially supplied from another early edition, ownership inscription removed from title, some light staining.)
