Description

Fascinating German hand-colored engraved map of western central Africa, encompassing the Congo River Basin south to Angola.

Congolese peoples are labelled and divided with hand-color into regions, with little detail shown outside of the coast.

In the area of present-day Zimbabwe, the Manica and Monomotapa regions are delineated. Monomotapa (or, The Kingdom of Mutapa) was an important southern African kingdom that existed until the mid-18th century and is frequently labelled on antiquarian maps.
