Description

The Pacific Theater--"Blotting Out The Rising Sun"

Scarce New York Sunday News map of the Pacific Theater, drawn by Edwin L. Sundberg.

Pictorial News map, showing the Theater of War in the Pacific and East Asia. The note reads in part:

This map is designed to illustrate the size of the asignment in beating back (arrows) the long road to Tokio. The problem of logistics-- of supplies and transporation-- is appalling in light of the immense distances . . . This has enabled Tojo to surround the island emire with a great ring of steel bastions from China through Burma, the East Indies and the Solomons. . . .

One of a number of Sundberg maps published as Sunday news inserts during the war years. Sundberg was known to have been a pictorial map artist both before and after the war.
