Description
Fine large format map of the Pacific Ocean, published in Paris by Poirson.
The map is centered on Hawaii (Sandwich Islands) and retains the native names for the islands of New Zealand (T'Avi Poenanimoo and Eaheinomawe).
Australia is still Nouvelle Hollande, with the Bass Strait now named, although the Gulf of St. Vincent (Josephine) and Spencer Gulf (Buonaparte) retain their French names. Port Philip is also named, as is Port Western (French Island, etc.). Most of the early Dutch and French names around the coastline remain.
A finely detailed map.
