Description

Highly detailed map of east-central Texas and the contigous part of Arkasnas, which accompanied Capt. G.W. Hughes' Memoir descriptive of the March of a Division of the US Army under the command of Brig. Gen. J.E. Wool from San Antonio in Texas to Saltillo in Mexico."

The map shows the route from Shreveport on the Red River to San Antonio. The Old San Antonio and Nacogdoches Road is prominently shown.

The unnamed river flowing through Cincinnati, Texas and Robbins Ferry is the Trinity River, which extends north the area around the modern city of Dallas, which which was hand only been laid out by J. P. Dumas in 1844 and would not be granted a town charter until 1856.

The map locates several very early settlements including Douglas, Nacogdoches, Crockett, Robbins' Ferry, Washington, Independence, Bastrop, Houston, Liberty, Austin, Saguin, and, of course San Antonio de Bexar.
