Rare pair of maps, illustrating the United States and Canada before and after the Treaty of Peace in 1783.
The maps are colored to show the changes before and after the Treaty. The second (later) map also adds the New England state name not present in the earlier state.
The maps come with the first 2 volumes of Johann Jacob Moser's rare Nord-America nach den friedensschlüssen vom jähr, 1783. The third volume issued in 1785, is not present, and is focused on Spanish North America (Von dem spanischen America with description of California, Cinaloa, Florida, Louisiana), and does not include a map.
Howes notes that Moser's work was "First comprehensive analysis of this republic of states".
Moser's work is very rare, with no complete sets reported at auction or in dealer catalogs since 1923.
