Description

Fine example of the earliest map of San Diego printed by Rodney Stokes, San Diego's first major mapmaking establishment.

The map folds into covers with the title "New Map of the City of San Diego, Published By Jacobs & Rock." The map was apparently distributed by Richards Realty Company, 922 Sixth Street, in San Diego.

Shows the new Subdivisions in Pacific Beach, Morena, Ocean Beach and La Playa.

The map shows Fort Rosecrans, the US Naval Air Station, the Naval Fuel Depot, US Marine Corps Base and US Naval Training Station. Mission Beach is not yet subdivided (1915), and there is no bridge constructed across the Mission Bay Channel, connecting Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach.

Jacobs & Rock advertised their services as Map Mounters and Publishers in Los Angeles in 1908.

This is the earliest example of a Rodney Stokes map of San Diego listed in OCLC.
