Description
Rare map of Hungary by Jacob von Sandrart, published in Nuremberg.
The map includes fine details, many coats of arms, towns, rivers, bridges, lakes, mountains and other details, including historical annotations with dates reflecting the battles fought with the Ottoman Empire.
The present map is also an example of a map which includes a "Chronogram," disguising the date of the map within text. Here, the Chronogram appears at the bottom of the cartouche as follows: Gott ste Vre DeM b LVtg Ir Igen Türken Ant I Chr Ist (concealing the date of 1664 for the map).
The map apparently appears in Louis Vlasblom's Universum Totale, Sive Rerum Visibilium Compendium.
