Description

Highly detailed map of the lower Mississippi River, extending from Fort St. Phillip and Fort Jackson in the north, past Oyster Bay and Bay Ronde to Blind Bay, Carden Island Bay and East Bay, with vignettes of Mud Lump and Carr's Lump, published by the Bureau of Topographical Engineers.

The U.S. Army Corps of Topographical Engineers, authorized on July 4, 1838, consisted only of officers and was used for mapping and the design and construction of federal civil works such as lighthouses and other coastal fortifications and navigational routes.
