Description

Fine birdseye view of San Diego, Balboa Park, Coronado and San Diego Bay, published in connection with the 1915 California Panama Exposition.

We have located only a single example of the map in the California State Library, which offers no information on the maker. We note that the example at the CSL is trimmed at the top and lacking approximately the top 3 inches and the bottom 2 inches, whereas it appears to be slightly wider than our example of the view.

The CSL example can be seen here: catalog.library.ca.gov/F/GUIE2YLL79NC26LFC3YX6SR2KGL3873QL9N8IGXEEUX4USXASJ-01855

We also note the existence of a postcard version of the view, which was apparently "Published by Eno & Matteson, San Diego Cal.", which published 6 post-cards of the exposition beginning circa November 1913. As the post-card image was almost certainly drawn from our poster image, we surmise that the poster image was created in 1913 or 1914. We found no evidence that Eno & Matteson created the poster sized image or original artwork.
